She Loves Me - Long Wharf Theatre
12/15/24
It’s been a while since I’ve worked on a site-specific production, but She Loves Me found me working at the Lab at ConnCORP - a community incubator it Hamden, CT - where Long Wharf Theatre chose to produce the show.
The room itself was originally a “gymatorium”, within which Scenic Designer Emmie Finckel created a wonderful set in an alleyway configuration.
Led by artistic director of LWT, and director of the show, Jacob Padrón, we looked at the show in a stripped down manner, trying find the core of the piece, while also recognizing the time in which the show is set (a tenuous time between World Wars I and II).
One of the ways that the musical was distilled down was a reorchestration by Andy Einhorn from the dozen plus musicians, down to five - led by Music Director Miles Plant.
Working with the rest of the creative team - lighting designer Jiyoun Chang, costume designer Sarita Fellowes, and choreographer Chris Bell, - some great collaborators and in general, lovely people to be around.
